R24 for a normal car

Chapmans Peak Drive is the scenic and mountainous road between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. The 9km route goes around 114 curves as it skirts the cliffs of Chapmans Peak overlooking the Atlantic. The views are spectacular and this is a particularly popular scenic drive.

There are several parking areas and picnic spots along the route as visitors normally want to take advantage of the magnificent views.

Because of the costs of keeping this route open and safe, it has become a toll route so you'll have to pay a small fee to take advantage of it.

Tips
  • The route is freely open to cyclists and is indeed popular for that purpose
Getting There

Chappies is accessible from Hout Bay and Noordhoek - clearly visible and signposted

  • From Hout Bay, continue with the M6 coastal road in a southern direction
  • Sign posts indicate the way to Chapman's Peak Drive
  • The toll-plaza is on the Hout Bay side of the Chapman's Peak Drive

Its pretty awesome

I did this drive on a random Saturday morning and took it slow, there where loads of places to stop off and have a picnic which I would recommend. It is really something you have to do to appreciate what we are surrounded by here in the cape.
