The Dias Tavern is a Portuguese restaurant in Caledon Street (City Bowl) near the Castle. There is a large menu but the focus is on meat (steaks, prego rolls) and the large seafood selection. You can view a detailed menu here
This restaurant is very popular with locals and is normally packed on weekend nights so booking is advisable. There is a small non-smoking section, but most of the restaurant is centered around the stage and can get very lively as the evening progresses. There is often live music (covering golden oldies) and later in the evenings dancing often ensues at the bar and in front of the stage.
The Dias is fairly popular as a lunch destination because of its central location, but you can be fairly confident of getting a table without a booking at lunch. That said, it is essential to book a table for weekend evenings.
- If you want a non-smoking table then it is essential that you book in advance
