Many people don't realize that it is possible to visit the parliament of South Africa. Visitors can arrange a tour (about 1 hour) or even attend a debate in parliament. All of these services are completely free, but must be arranged ahead of time.
An advanced booking (tickets for a debate can be obtained on the day) should be made at the Public Relations office - see contact details above.
It can be interesting to watch a debate - you get a feel for how the country is run. Depending on the debate that you choose to attend things can get fairly lively, but many visitors do get bored and leave early.
- Parliament is at the T-junction between Roeland and Plein Streets in the City Bowl
- If you drive down Roeland Street turn right into Plein Street (parliament is directly ahead)
- The Visitors Centre is on the ground floor at 120 Plein Street
