Rhodes Memorial is located in the pine forests at the foot of Devils Peak within the Table Mountain Park and is close to several hiking paths and picnic spots.
It was built in 1912 with granite extracted from Table Mountain in order to honor Cecil John Rhodes.
Today the memorial is an impressive and popular destination. From the wide granite stairs and open courtyard there are panoramic views towards both Table Bay and False Bay, and on a clear day the Hottentots Holland mountains.
There is also a popular outdoor restaurant catering for tea and lunch located just behind the memorial. This restaurant is a good spot for a relaxed lunch in the fresh air. It is popular however, so you may have to wait a few minutes.
- There is a popular restaurant and cafe at the memorial which is worth checking out
- It is not really safe to hang around after closing time
