Carlucci’s (Oranjezicht)

Carlucci's is a deli, restaurant and shop on Upper Orange Street in Gardens/Oranjezicht. With tables inside and outside the restaurant/deli is very popular. Carlucci's also sells unusual and imported foods and wines with many patrons arriving only to make use of the shop.

There is a deli counter where a variety of delicious sandwiches and baked goods are on offer. Choose you bread from the baskets (pumpkin seed, croissant, ciabatta, rye, health, etc), choose a sandwich filling and the ladies behind the deli counter will make the sandwich while you wait or while you enjoy some coffee.

The deli also serves the restaurant which has several tables inside and several set up outside along the road. Sandwiches, salads, coffee, etc are on offer - this is a daytime restaurant. The service can be a little slow, especially when busy, but Carlucci's is more a place to relax.

There is also shop section within Carlucci's selling high quality foods and imported goods. There are interesting coffees, imported chai teas, cheeses, humus, wines, and a variety of other goods not often found in other stores. The shop seems to the primary attraction for many of the patrons.

There are also excellent and reasonably priced pre-made meals on offer. For instance there are a variety of pasta meals ready for warming which go for R30-R35 for a large portion. These meals are convenient, fresh, tasty, healthy, and excellent value for money - easily defeating competing convenience meals from Woolworths.

• Since June 2008 Carlucci's has been running an excellent special - two of their great pre-made pastas and a bottle of wine for R80. Very good value
• Waiters are often overwhelmed - you can speed things up by ordering your own sandwiches from the deli counter before sitting down
