Chef Pon's Asian Kitchen is an Asian restaurant in Gardens that has a large menu offering Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, Mongolian and other Asian dishes. The restaurant is located on Mill Street close to the Gardens Centre and is fairly popular.
There is a large smoking section as you enter the restaurant and a little further in there is also a fair sized section for non-smokers. The restaurant itself has a cosy and relaxed feeling. Service is average.
The food is pretty good, and there is a very large selection of dishes to choose from.
Tips
- Chef Pon's is often busy, but if you find no space then don't forget that there is another Chef Pon's about 1km down the road.
- The food is fairly spicy, even dishes not marked as spicy have been known to affect softer palettes. Let them know if you want really mild food
Getting There
- Chef Pon's (Mill Street) is located very near to the Gardens Centre off Mill Street (commonly known as Orange Street)
- If you are heading towards Lions Head go past the Engen Garage (on your right) and keep left
- The road splits with a single lane heading left towards the Cable Way - take that split
- As the road splits Chef Pon's Asian Kitchen is on your left

Prices just went up
Chef Pons have a new menu and the prices are up... The cheapest dishes are now R55 before rice (R10) or noodles (R20). Many of the dishes are up to R65 and even R72. You'll get much better value at Simply Asia.
Go for the Nasi Goreng
Nasi goreng is a great Indonesian dish that I often order at Asian restaurants. The nasi goreng at Chef Pons is pretty good - fried rice with beef, prawns and often some fried egg too. The spices are what make the dish delicious.
Also, because this dish effectively is a rice dish it works out being a cheap option at Chef Pons because you don’t have to order rice as well. R55 for a large and tasty dish.
