Kitima is a great Thai/Asian restaurant located in the historic Kronendal Manor House in Hout Bay. This Cape Dutch mansion was built in the 1700s and several atmosphere setting details have been retained: creaking wooden floors, yellowwood doors, wooden window and door frames and a huge old fireplace. This combines well with the Thai feel (silks and elaborate gold detailing) to give the restaurant an interesting ambience.

There is a large central bar area which is popular and allows smoking and cocktails - the Mochito is apparently a specialty.

The menu itself is Asian (with a Thai leaning) and offers a wide variety of great meals including: sushi, soup, dumplings, various curries, and chicken and beef dishes. Although this restaurant is not cheap, the excellent food, good service and beautiful setting are well worth it.

There is a legend that there is a lady ghost of the house, and each evening an extra table is set up in the entrance area with food for her!

Tips
  • A Sunday buffet is apparently superb (R150 each) but bookings well in advance are requried
  • Make sure that you book ahead of time as Kitima is very popular
  • The salmon curry is extremely good
Getting There
  • Kitima is on Hout Bay Main Rd on the left if you are heading towards Chapmans Peak
  • It is located in a large white house near the soccer fields (on the right)
  • If you get to the second traffic circle (the one close to Chapmans) then you have gone too far

Buffet not all that great...

The Sunday buffet is good, but not amazing (there are far better buffet's available in Cape Town). The starters are all there, but there are only 6 main courses on offer and they aren't great.
