Kirstenbosch is a world renowned and beautiful botanical garden tucked into the lower slopes of Devils Peak in the Table Mountain National Park. Covering 528 hectares (36 are cultivated) of indigenous South African plant life from fynbos to forest, Kirstenbosch has a lot to offer.
The gardens have several large sloped lawn areas which are ideal for picnics, reading a book under the trees or a gentle stroll. There is plenty of scope for some wonderful walks within the gardens and if you run out of room there are paths leading up into the mountains. There are numerous water features and little areas for the kids to explore.
On summer Sunday afternoons there is the Summer Concert Series where musicians perform on an open air stage - often to thousands of eager visitors.
There are also several restaurants around the gardens and there is a shop at the visitor center just after entering the gardens. See the official site for more information.
- There are free guided walks (about 90 minutes) departing from the main entrace at 10:00 Monday to Saturday
