Butterfly World is home to the "largest free flying park for butterflies in Southern Africa". There are literally thousands of colorful butterflies freely flying around an enclosed garden through which visitors are welcome to walk. The area is fairly large and there are many butterflies, from three continents available for viewing in the various stages of their lives.
There are many species available and there are displays providing information about the different species and their life cycles. Be careful while moving around the enclosure as the butterflies are delicate and some will inevitably land on you.
There are also birds (butterfly-friendly of course) in the enclosure and some other small animals for viewing in other enclosures. There is a small gift shop and restaurant where you can grab some snacks.
- Butterly World is close to several wine farms and as such can easily be linked into a wine tasting trip
- Get onto the N1 heading away from Cape Town towards Paarl
- Fairly close to Paarl you should take the R44 towards Paarl (left off the N1)
- Butterfly World is soon clearly visible from this road
