Aug/Sept annually
2008 event is 23 August
The Puffer is an extreme ultra-marathon completed annually by 100 of the strongest trail runners in Cape Town. The 80km route starts at Cape Point and ends at the V&A Waterfront moving through the mountains all the way!
The route takes runners through the Cape Point Nature Reserve, along the mountains to the top of Table Mountain and then down to the Waterfront. You can view a detailed description of a previous route here.
Although the event is slightly shorter than the Comrades Marathon the rugged terrain makes it a lot more difficult and the winners take more than 8 hours to finish. Because of the extreme nature of this event qualification is very strict. Among other things you must complete another ultra marathon (e.g. Comrades or Two Oceans) within 6 months of the Puffer.
Don't even think about taking part in this event unless you are extremely fit and experienced.
