Strandkombuis is a relaxed beach seafood restaurant on the Sixteen Mile Beach in Yzerfontein. The restaurant is located less than 1 hours drive from Cape Town and there are also many B&B rooms available for those who prefer to overnight in Yzerfontein.
Die Strandkombuis is also very popular as a wedding venue because of the beach location, relaxed and fun atmosphere and the fact that there are rooms available for the guests at the bed and breakfast.
The food is good and is generally served in a buffet style. There are plenty of choices but keep in mind that this is a seafood restaurant. Some items from the menu are:
- Starters: soup, snoek pate, and warm bread with butter and jams.
- Main Course: Yellow tail, mussels, prawns, calamari, smoked snoek and salads
- Dessert: Coffee and koeksisters
- Take the N1 from Cape Town and follow signs for the R27 West Coast Road, this is the second turn-off from Town.
- Follow the R27 for approximately 80km before reaching the Vygervallei Farm Shop (painted bright yellow), just after the farm shop take the left-hand turn sign posted for Yzerfontein.
- Carry on straight for around 6.7 km where you will see signboards for Strandkombuis on your right-hand side.
- Follow the signs for about 4kms through the veld.
- The gravel road curves around to the left and you will see the white buildings of the B&B
Good but Strandloper is better
I enjoyed my time at Die Strandkombuis. It's a nice restaurant and the setting is great. However, I think that for the price it is worth driving a little further and getting an amazing experience at Die Strandloper. Die Strandloper is a similar restaurant, also a seafood buffet on the beach but surpasses Die Strandkombuis is quality of food and setting.
